Established in 1974, Area Five Agency on Aging and Community Services is an independent not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving the needs of the elderly, the disabled and the disadvantaged members of North Central Indiana.

Current openings:

Kitchen Driver – Logansport (part-time)
Part-time, Monday through Friday position, with morning hours. Duties include: delivering meals to our Miami and Wabash County meal sites and assisting in the kitchen as needed. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, have a valid driver’s license, and be willing to learn how to operate the heated/refrigerated delivery truck mechanism.

Case Manager – Miami & Howard Counties (full-time)
Perform In-home visits to determine needs and eligibility of individuals. Set up and monitor services on an ongoing basis. Work with many different agencies to ensure client’s safety and well-being is met. Must have reliable transportation with valid driver’s license and insurance. Computer skills, communication skills, and knowledge of community agency programs are helpful. Education: Requires a Bachelor’s degree (4 yr. degree) in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Gerontology, Nursing, or Health & Human Services; OR Bachelor’s degree (4 yr. degree) in any field with a minimum of two years full-time, direct service experience with the elderly or disabled which includes assessment, care plan development and monitoring; OR Registered nurse; OR A Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Gerontology, Nursing or Health & Human Services may substitute for the required minimum of two full time direct services experiences; OR An Associate’s degree in nursing; OR An Associate’s degree in any field with a minimum of four year full-time, direct service experience with the elderly or disabled which includes assessment, care plan development and monitoring.

Facilities Maintenance Support Worker – Logansport (full-time)
Maintains and repairs physical structures of buildings and maintains grounds. Receives written work orders or verbal instructions from supervisor to perform structural repairs to masonry, woodwork, and furnishings of buildings. Performs grounds maintenance activities such as mowing grass, weed removal and disposal, trimming shrubs and trees, disposing of leaves and refuse. Moves furniture and files and unloads and stores supplies to assist other departments as requested. Repairs drywall and plasters walls, paints interior and exterior walls and trim; hangs wall paper and other finish material. Operates snow removal equipment to maintain parking lots and sidewalks. Maintains and repairs buildings' plumbing and electrical systems, including replacing worn or defective parts such as switches and fuses. Replaces worn or damaged parts such as hoses, wiring, belts, in machines and equipment. Performs basic carpentry work using hand and small power tools. Maintains tools and equipment in safe working condition; understands purpose and limits of all tools and equipment used. Assembles/dis-assembles furniture and equipment as required. Assists in maintaining safety & security of facilities and staff by monitoring the fire extinguishers and exit signs; helps maintain MSDS files, and transportation and storage of hazardous materials. Assist Facility Manager with Vehicle maintenance, repairs, and recording of such maintenance on the appropriate logs. Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must maintain a valid driver's license and carry vehicle insurance.

Family Support Specialist –Miami/Wabash Counties (full-time)
Healthy Families is a home visitation program in which you will apply working knowledge of parent-child interaction, child development, safety issues, and the dynamics of child abuse and neglect to help enrolled families improve parenting skills and reduce family stress. Must be able to accurately prepare reports, documentation & data entry, communicate effectively, handle crisis situations in a calm manner, type & have computer knowledge, be organized and efficiently manage time. College degree preferred and/or one to three years’ experience or training working with infants and young children and in working with parents. Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and proof of car insurance.

Guardian Specialist – Howard & Miami Counties (full-time)
Assist Program Director as needed with the Area Five Adult Guardianship VASIA Program. Assist Program Director in recruiting and coaching all volunteers in their respective County of service. Complete monthly reviews of volunteer advocates paperwork and guardianship cases. Attend conferences, symposium, training, etc. by the Indiana Supreme Court as applicable and time allows. Intake referrals for guardianship from the community. Research and determine if referrals meet criteria for Area Five Guardianship VASIA Program. Investigate ward’s family history, medical history, and home life situation. Choose attorney on rotation within their County and meet with attorney to introduce case and prepare Court documentation; sign; and appear in Court as the Petitioner for the Guardianship. Match ward with appropriate volunteer advocate. Advise volunteer advocate where to start with ward, ie: research history, ward familiarity, record assets, etc. Specialist can assist ward in finding a qualified payee. Specialist may need to have advocate responsibility for ward, especially if guardian of estate instead of just person. Always be available for volunteer advocates to consult with about their wards and decisions that need to be made. Be backup as needed to Program Director and Staff Coordinator with cell phone for availability 24/7 for life threatening or life altering decisions that have to be made in an emergency at hospitals, nursing facilities, etc. Be knowledgeable in the details of Indiana Code 29 Probate as it pertains to Guardianships ie: 29-3-8.5-12 etc, National Guardianship Model Code of Ethics for Guardians, National Guardianship Association Standards of Practice for Guardians & Agencies, and Adult Guardianship Office Code of Ethics in order to assist the Program Director in maintaining all guidelines and practices for Area Five Adult Guardianship VASIA Program. Must be willing to travel. Associate Degree and four years of experience with serving adults in a medical, health, or mental related field is preferred. Having an active National Guardianship Association Certification and any previous professional guardianship experience is preferred but not necessary.


EAP Client Service Specialist - 1 Cass County / 2 Howard County / 1 Miami County / 1 Tipton County (part-time)
No supervisory responsibilities. Bi-lingual applicants are preferred for Cass positions; however not exclusively. Individual is responsible for taking EAP applications, data entry, providing Energy Education and secretarial duties as needed. Work with clients and negotiate with utility vendors. Individual must have interpersonal skills which allow for effective communication with clients and utility vendors, maintain good organizational skills, and are able to calculate income efficiently. Some travel may be required. Other duties as assigned and/or necessary to get the required jobs done.

Head Start Teacher Assistant – Rochester (full-time)
37.5 hours per week. Assists the Teacher/Family Facilitator in planning and executing all component services for Head Start children and families according to the National Head Start Performance Standards and the local component plans. Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) required, Area Five is willing to assist with the cost of obtaining CDA.

Head Start Teacher Assistant – Logansport (full-time)
37.5 hours per week. Assists the Teacher/Family Facilitator in planning and executing all component services for Head Start children and families according to the National Head Start Performance Standards and the local component plans. Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) required, Area Five is willing to assist with the cost of obtaining CDA.
